Here at Frog we take sizing a child very seriously. This is one of the most important factors for cycling success and enjoyment.
Unlike many kids' bikes, Frog bikes are sized based on leg length rather than age, since this is the most reliable way to find the right size bike for each child. Children are unique and come in all shapes and sizes, growing at different times, so age alone isn’t a reliable measure.
Find your fit
In many cases, wheel size and age are used as methods to select a child's bike, but this is not accurate; you need to measure the inseam of the child's legs. This will ensure that your child is able to place their feet on the ground safely and comfortably.
We recommend taking the time to measure the rider’s inside leg by following these simple steps:
Stand the child in socks against a wall
Place a small book between their legs, as high as is comfortable
Ask the child to move away and measure from the top of the book to the floor
Once you have measured the inside leg, use the table below to find the right size of bike for your child
Standover height and saddle height should also be factored into finding the right size bike for your child. This will ensure that your child can stand comfortably over the top tube (cross bar) of the bike and be able to touch the ground when seated on the bike allowing them to stop and start without toppling off.
We recommend purchasing your Frog bike from your local Frog stockist, who will build the bike for you and ensure it fits your child properly.
Your local Frog Bikes stockist will have many of our bikes available for the rider to sit on in-store. You will get help and advice on sizing, and receive ongoing service, as well as support. Using our FrogFit App, stockists can recommend models based on arm length, inside leg measurement, and a rider's confidence level.
