Here are some fun and effective tips from our Frog Squad ambassadors, designed to help young riders improve their skills and enjoy
every ride to the fullest!
Beginner cycling tips (Ages 3-6)
Start with balance
Practice balancing on two wheels by gliding on a balance bike or by using the pedals sparingly on a regular bike.
Steering made simple
Begin by practising wide turns to help develop control, then slowly work up to tighter turns. Try "slalom" riding between soft
cones or chalk marks.
Use your brakes gently
Teach gentle braking by gradually squeezing the brakes to come to a soft stop.
"Every time we go out on the bike we have an objective, even if it's small. This can focus on stopping, starting, turning,
pedalling, braking, etc., to increase bike skills."
— Rohan's dad
Intermediate cycling tips (Ages 7-10)
Mastering uphill riding
Use momentum to help with hills. As you approach, stand up slightly on the pedals, keep your weight centred, and pedal firmly.
Handling speed and corners
Learn to shift your weight to handle turns at higher speeds. Lean slightly into the turn and keep your eyes on where you want to
go.
Riding with friends
Practice riding with friends in a straight line, keeping a safe distance and signalling if you're slowing down.
"As long as you have fun riding your bike, that's all that matters!!"
— Zachy, age 10
Bike care tips
Storing your bike
Always store your bike in a safe, dry place to keep it in great condition.
"Putting your bike in the garage or shed only takes a minute. Frog bikes are very special; we should treat them respectfully
and look after them."
