Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire presents Frog Bikes with King’s Award for Enterprise

8 April 2024 - News

Frog Bikes, a leading manufacturer of lightweight kids' bikes, proudly announces its reception of the prestigious King's Award for Enterprise, presented by Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire. This esteemed accolade is a testament to Frog Bikes' unwavering commitment to innovation, excellence, and social impact around the world.

Frog Bikes has been recognised with the King's Award for International Trade, underscoring its achievements in global commerce. Demonstrating robust overseas sales growth and an effective export strategy, Frog Bikes has successfully expanded its footprint in international markets. The introduction of innovative product lines, such as the City bikes, tailored to the preferences of European consumers, has further propelled Frog Bikes' global presence.

"Winning the King’s Award for International Trade is a significant milestone for us," remarks Jerry Lawson, Co-founder of Frog Bikes. “It underscores our dedication to delivering exceptional quality and value to customers worldwide, despite the challenges faced by British exporters.”

Frog Bikes stands at the forefront of addressing the pressing crisis in child health, driven by rising childhood obesity and sedentary lifestyles. Recognising the pivotal role of early intervention, Frog Bikes advocates for increased early years cycling to lay the groundwork for a healthier generation. Through partnerships with cycling organisations, such as Bikeability, charities, schools, nurseries, and councils they strive to enhance cycling access for children to promote physical activity, mental well-being, independence, and confidence.

"Our dedication to fostering a healthier future for our children is deeply ingrained in everything we do," says Shelley Lawson, Co-founder of Frog Bikes. “Receiving the King's Award for Enterprise is a testament to the collective efforts of our team and partners who share our vision of empowering the next generation through active lifestyles worldwide.”

Among the key initiatives Frog Bikes supports is the removal of VAT from children's bikes, increasing their accessibility to families. By aligning children's bikes with other essential children’s items, Frog Bikes wants to make it easier for parents to provide the tools their children need to stay active and healthy.

"There is no VAT on kids' clothing, so why would something like sports, or bicycles, be subject to VAT?" commented Jerry Lawson on the recent budget announcement. “There should have been more funding dedicated to cycling and promoting cycling among kids."

In receiving the King's Award for Enterprise, Frog Bikes not only celebrates its achievements but also reaffirms its commitment to driving positive change and shaping a brighter, healthier future for generations to come.

Cllr Shaun Macdonald, Leader of Surrey Heath Borough Council, commented, “It is great to see local entrepreneurs Jerry and Shelley Lawson, get the recognition they deserve with this King’s Award. As an active cyclist myself, from childhood to today, I relate to their passion and purpose of improving health and well-being in our young people, especially whilst encouraging more zero-emissions journeys by all, something we too at the Council are investing in for our residents.”
