Discover Habitat Escapes’ luxury lakeside holidays on a Frog bike

Ever wanted to venture around a beautiful private estate, amidst lakeside trails, rivers and hundreds of acres of green space on two wheels?

Well, we have the answer… Our partner Habitat Escapes, the luxury lakeside holiday provider can do just that! And what’s more, you can do it on Frog bikes!

At Frog Bikes, we are real advocates for getting outdoors, away from screens and away from distractions, as the best way to truly unwind and spend quality time with the family. That’s why we work with like-minded people and businesses, just like Habitat Escapes, to make cycling more accessible, help get kids outside, keep them active and get more kids on bikes.

Habitat Escapes has two private estates, one at Lower Mill in the Cotswolds and the other at Silverlake in Dorset. Both locations offer spectacular surroundings, an array of outdoor activities and wonderful habitats and native wildlife - complemented by luxurious accommodation, making them perfect for short breaks or holidays with the family.

Frog Bikes Sales Manager, Freya Harrison caught up with the team at Lower Mill Estate to find out just how idyllic it is…
Here’s what she thought…

From the second you enter the gates at the front of Lower Mill Estate, you are surrounded by fields, nature and pretty landscapes and it feels very serene. Within a very short period of time, I felt like I had happily escaped the hustle and bustle of urban life and had already started to unwind.

We made our way to the Activity Hub to meet Lawrence, the Activity Hub Manager, who took us on a cycling tour of the estate.

AT ONE WITH NATURE

We hopped onto some of the rental bikes and started to make our way around the Estate. Lawrence was very keen on showing us the wonderful nature reserve where we passed beautiful lakes, just leisurely riding through nature. It’s a stark contrast to cycling on bustling roads in London, which I absolutely loved!

There is so much to see whilst out on bikes and acres of bike trails to explore, either on a long-distance cycle along the local routes or an easier ride around Lower Mill Estate’s nature reserve, there’s something for everyone. And, the lakes really are stunning, there are eight in total and two rivers and a whole lot of wildlife including ducks, herons and swans!

Lawrence said, In winter we get over 25 species of waterbirds on the lakes including Kingfishers and in Spring Nightingale, Cuckoos and Cetti’s Warbler can be spotted. Water voles can be seen on the rivers and otters on the lakes, and sometimes they can be seen moving through the villages too. And at Flagham Fen at dusk, you can sometimes spot the beavers.

The wildflower meadow is somewhat special too, now a registered site of Special Scientific Interest because it’s home to several plant species which are rare in Wiltshire and Southern England.

There is also a pump track tucked away in the trees on the nature reserve, perfect for kids and adults alike, if they want to try something a little more adventurous. So after a quick blast around the pump track and a jaunt back through the nature reserve, we arrived back at the Activity Hub which was now busy with guests selecting their next adventure.

FROG BIKES FOR HIRE

Both Lower Mill Estate and Silverlake, Dorset have a great selection of bikes available for hire for both adults and children, including Frog bikes for children aged 6 and up and trailers for little ones that aren’t old enough to ride. Bikes and trailers can be hired for up to 3 days at a time.

Lawrence commented, Homeowners and guests are much more likely to rent a bike from a premium brand like Frog Bikes, as they know it will be reliable. Children find that because the bikes are lightweight they are easier to handle and more comfortable to ride, so are much more likely to be repeat customers and we find that many little ones take their first independent bike ride at Lower Mill, as it’s so flat.

The Activity Hub has recently implemented a great way to encourage cycling with a new bike trail digital map. You simply scan the QR code and a route will open on your phone for you to follow, track and enjoy. Children will love exploring and tracking the trails, which range from beginner to expert levels.

The Activity Hub also offers paddle boarding, rowing, katakanu, yoga, kayaks, safaris, tennis, soft play, walking trails, and fishing. And, there is an award-winning spa and three swimming pools onsite too.

FREYA’S VERDICT
After exploring Lower Mill Estate on two wheels I can honestly say I’d be happy to do that every day! It was very calming and a fantastic way to see the sights, and cycle through nature. It is the ideal place to venture out with the family away from the traffic, pollution and stresses of the city. You don’t even need to be an avid cyclist because most of the routes are flat and the terrain is suitable for all abilities. I would definitely recommend it!
