Inspiring young cyclists at Brownlee Foundation Triathlon
- Jul 16, 2024
A few weeks ago, we had the incredible opportunity to be part of the Brownlee Foundation School Triathlon in Bracknell, Berkshire. This was one of fourteen events run by the Brownlee Foundation this year that was a testament to both of our commitments to helping kids get on bikes and encouraging them to lead active, healthy lifestyles.
A day filled with energy and enthusiasm
The Brownlee Foundation, established by Olympic triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, aims to inspire children to engage in sports and physical activity from a young age. Their school triathlon events are a fantastic platform for kids to experience the thrill of triathlon in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. In Bracknell, over 1000 children from 30 local primary schools took part in the event, many of them trying triathlon for the first time - Seeing the joy and excitement on the faces of the young participants was truly inspiring!
“The event was brilliant with inclusivity and our children got so much out of it. There was such a great atmosphere and the children loved taking part.” commented one of the Teachers from a participating school.
Loaning Frog bikes for a cause
At Frog Bikes, we are dedicated to making cycling accessible to children of all ages and abilities. To support the Brownlee Foundation’s mission, we proudly loan a fleet of our bikes for the school triathlon events they run each year. Our bikes are designed specifically for children, ensuring a comfortable and confidence-boosting ride. By providing these bikes, we aim to remove barriers to participation and give every child the chance to discover the joy of cycling.
Highlights of the day
The triathlon in Bracknell was a day filled with memorable moments: it was heartwarming to see the children's faces light up as they hopped on a Frog bike (or scooter if unable to ride) and set off on their cycling leg of the triathlon. The support from teachers, friends, and volunteers was incredible, with cheers and applause echoing around the venue, encouraging every child to give their best effort.
Jerry Lawson, Co-founder of Frog Bikes, commented “Participating in sports events like these triathlons has a profound impact on children. It helps them build physical fitness, learn new skills, and develop confidence. More importantly, it instils a love for an active lifestyle that can last a lifetime. We are proud to play a role in this journey by providing our premium, child-specific bikes.”
School triathlons
The fourteen Brownlee Foundation School Triathlon events in 2024 were a huge success seeing over 13,500 young people experience swimming, cycling, running and triathlon.
“We’d be delighted if each event inspires only a handful of people to take up regular activity. In a nutshell, this is the aim of everything we do with the Brownlee Foundation.” The Brownlee Brothers
