Frog Bikes hosts local MP visit as it looks to increase cycling participation through Councils
Nick Smith, MP for Blaenau Gwent, Councilor Sue Edmunds, and Angharad Barret, Road Safety Officer at Blaenau Gwent Council were welcomed by Frog Bikes manufacturing for a tour of the multi-award-winning kids’ bike factory.
In its 120,000-square-foot factory in Pontypool, Wales, leading kids' bike manufacturer Frog Bikes produces hundreds of bikes per day and ships them to over 50 countries worldwide.
The visitors had the opportunity to see the Frog Bikes factory, as well as its award-winning bikes, and learn more about how they can help local councils, schools, and communities promote bike use.
Jerry Lawson, Co-founder of Frog Bikes, said, "We were delighted to welcome Nick, Sue, and Angharad to the factory. It was great to be able to showcase the manufacturing facility and show how bikes that are designed specifically for children could help advance cycling in schools and local communities.”
Frog bikes offer lightweight aluminium frames with child-specific components making them easier to learn on. This, in turn, means that children at schools need fewer training sessions, as the bikes help to build confidence in handling and riding. Frog bikes are low maintenance as they are built from quality materials and standard parts that can be easily replaced by schools if needed. And, as the bikes are built with high-standard durable components, they last longer and hold their value.
Nick Smith, MP commented “I was glad to visit Frog Bikes in neighbouring Torfaen to hear about their great work encouraging children to take up cycling across the UK. Frog is the only company manufacturing children’s bikes in the UK and you can see why they’re so popular given the bike's cool colours and lightweight frames which make them easy to manoeuvre and ride. Councillor Sue Edmunds from Blaenau Gwent came along to hear about the partnerships Frog has with other public services across the UK.”
Frog Bikes has worked with many councils across the UK to advance kids' cycling participation to encourage kids’ active travel, enhance children’s fitness, boost their mental well-being, and develop their biking and gross motor skills.
Fife Council keeps fleets of Frog Bikes in schools to help provide better integration of cycling within the PE curriculum and further develop Bikeability within schools and the wider community.
Cardiff Council offers a Frog Bikes fleet scheme to education facilities to help increase the number of children taking part in cycling and provide them with cycle training to further encourage active forms of travel.
