Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Pedals on a Frog Bike
- 25 Aug 2023
As your child grows, their enthusiasm for exploring the world on two wheels can be truly infectious. A Frog bike is an excellent choice for young riders due to its lightweight design, durability, and thoughtful features.
If you haven’t purchased your Frog bike from an independent bike shop the pedals will probably arrive detached from the bike.
One essential aspect of preparing a Frog bike for your little one is ensuring the pedals are properly installed. If you're unsure about how to do this, in this guide, we'll walk you through the simple process of putting pedals on a kids' Frog bike.
TOOLS YOU WILL NEED
Before you begin, gather the following tools:
1. Pedals: Make sure you have the appropriate left and right pedals
2. A 15mm pedal spanner or 15mm wrench: To fit the size of the flats on the pedal axle
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Identify the left and right pedals - Do this by checking on each pedal for either an ‘L’ or an ‘R’ on the end of the pedal axle or a sticker attached to the pedal. It's essential to install the correct pedal on each side.
2. Install the left pedal:
a. Stand on the side of the bike without the chain (usually the left side) and hold the left pedal, marked ‘L’, in your hand.
b. Turn the left pedal counterclockwise into the left crank arm. It's crucial to turn it in the correct direction to prevent reverse threading.
c. Begin by hand threading the pedal and be careful not to cross thread, force should not be needed at the start of the hand threading process or until you reach the end of the thread. Keep threading until it's snug. Then, use the pedal wrench to fully tighten the pedal. Ensure it's securely in place.
3. Install the right pedal:
a. Move to the chain side of the bike (usually the right side) and hold the right pedal, marked ‘R’, in your hand.
b. Turn the right pedal clockwise into the right crank arm. Again, make sure you start by threading it by hand and be careful again not to cross thread.
c. Use the pedal wrench to tighten the pedal, just like you did with the left pedal.
4. Test and double-check - Gently rotate the pedals and cranks to confirm they spin smoothly without any wobbling. If you notice any issues, double-check the installation to make sure the threads are properly engaged.
5. Ready to ride! - With the pedals securely attached, your child's Frog bike is now ready for some exciting adventures! Make sure to equip your young rider with proper safety gear, including a helmet, knee and elbow pads, and closed-toe shoes.
Remember that bike maintenance is an ongoing process, so periodically check the pedals' tightness and other components to ensure your child's safety and enjoyment on their bike.
Happy pedalling!
