How to celebrate your child’s progress on two wheels

Seeing your child gain confidence and skills on their bike is a milestone worth celebrating! They may have mastered balancing on a balance bike, pedalled independently for the first time, or conquered a challenging trail - each achievement is significant to them!

Here's how to celebrate their progress and make cycling even more exciting.

“I love being on my bike and taking part in races. I love being on the podium, doing better than I thought, and celebrating it with my friends. We cycle hard in a race then muck about for hours afterwards. Even if I fall off or something happens, we all have a laugh playing on our bikes and I learn tonnes from the bad days.” - Ben, Frog bike owner

1. Host a mini-celebration ride

Organise a fun family bike ride to mark their achievement. Choose a route they enjoy or one they’ve always wanted to try. Make the ride special by inviting friends and family to join, maybe even have a picnic. Don’t forget to capture the moment with photos or videos. Child-friendly pump tracks or local trails are fun and beneficial for all ages and abilities.

Remember cycling safety clothing when out on a family adventure.

Our grandson Eddy usually says “Grandpa I have an idea” I answer with, “What’s your idea?” He says, “We can go on a bike ride!” I’m happy to oblige haha! Our daughter called us on the last couple of days of the summer holidays and Ellie, our granddaughter said “Grandpa I can start off on my bike on my own. When you come down next time I can ride with you and Eddy” isn’t that magic! - Adventurous grandad @parnabybhillips

2. Create a cyclist’s certificate

Every pedal stroke is a step towards independence, confidence, and joy for young riders. Each milestone, from mastering gear shifts and conquering their first big hill to completing a long-distance ride, is a moment to be celebrated!

At Frog Bikes, we understand the importance of marking these achievements, as they inspire children to set new goals and nurture a lifelong love of cycling. That’s why we’ve created the Frog Certificate of Achievement – a fun and memorable way to honour your child’s cycling successes.

3. Upgrade their bike accessories

Consider rewarding their effort with the best bike accessories for kids, such as a colourful bell, a basket, or a fun Frog water bottle. These small upgrades celebrate their success and enhance their riding experience. For a bigger milestone, a new bike like a Frog factory outlet bike could be the perfect gift to encourage further growth.

4. Share their story

If your child is part of a local cycling community or a school program, it’s a great place to share their success story. This could be with the organisers, on social media or blogs dedicated to children’s cycling. These are wonderful ways to inspire other young cyclists and connect with a broader community. Our Frog Squad ambassador, Maël, has achieved a lot at a young age and has recently celebrated his success by being featured in the local newspaper.

Inspirational quotes Maël likes: “Make your life a dream, and a dream a reality” and “Victory is giving the best of yourself. If you give your best, you've won.”

5. Plan a bike adventure

Celebrate by exploring a new cycling destination: research child-friendly bike parks, scenic trails, or urban routes with safe cycling lanes. Make the day extra special by stopping at an ice cream parlour or favourite cafe. Take a look at Cycling UK for a list of cafes, rest stops and places of interest.

6. Encourage a new challenge

Motivate your child by setting their sights on a new goal, such as mastering a specific trail, improving their speed, or learning simple bike maintenance skills. Celebrate each milestone along the way with fun incentives like stickers or badges.

7. Make a wall of fame/scrapbook

Help document kids’ biking milestones with a sustainable scrapbook filled with photos, ticket stubs from family rides, and mementoes from cycling events. This celebrates their progress and creates a keepsake they’ll cherish.

Or, why not help your child with a wall of fame with all their achievements? Check out Zachy’s amazing wall of adventures, stories, and achievements.

“My ‘Zachy’s Quest’ wall is the best! It has everything on it from all of my big bike rides. When I collect new things that remind me of a bike ride I get Mummy to add it to my wall. It’s the best way to keep everything together and I can see it all the time to remind me how much fun I’ve had.” Zachy, Frog Squad Ambassador

Why celebrating matters

Recognising your child’s efforts on two wheels builds their confidence, reinforces positive habits, and strengthens their love for cycling. By celebrating their progress, you’re not just rewarding their achievements, but also fostering a lifelong passion for biking.

“We are a Frog family and recommend Frog bikes to all our friends! Our children aged 5 & 3 both learnt to ride by age 3 as the bikes are so lightweight and child-friendly! There’s no stopping them now! Three and thriving! To celebrate we love to go for family bike rides and have recently found a love of the skate park! But who needs a skateboard when you have a Frog bike!” - Natalie, Frog bike owner
